Modine Manufacturing Company Recalls Airedale Heating and Cooling Ventilation Fans Due to Fire Hazard

Modine Manufacturing is recalling ventilation fans inside Airedale ClassMate and SchoolMate heat pumps used in schools and classrooms. If water reaches the fan's circuit board, the motor can short circuit, causing the unit to overheat and potentially catch fire.

What is recalled
Ventilation fans built into Airedale-branded ClassMate DX Cooling and Air Source Heat Pumps and SchoolMate Water/Ground Source Heat Pumps. Affected models are identified by the ventilation configuration digit (digit 9) in the model number: CMD (digit 9: C, D, or E), CMP (digit 9: C, D, or E), SMG (digit 9: H, J, K, N, or P), SMW (digit 9: H, J, K, N, or P), and CMS (digit 9: H, J, K, N, or P). The Airedale brand name appears on a sticker on the front of the unit. The model name and serial number are on the serial plate on the underside of the control unit.
Am I affected
You're affected if your school or classroom has an Airedale-branded heat pump (look for the Airedale sticker on the front of the unit) and the serial plate on the underside of the control unit shows one of these model prefixes with the matching ventilation configuration digit (digit 9): CMD, CMP, SMG, SMW, or CMS, with digit 9 being C, D, E, H, J, K, N, or P as listed above.
What to do right now
Stop using the heat pump immediately. Contact Modine Manufacturing for written instructions on how to safely unplug the ventilation fan or switch its internal disconnect to the "off" position. Then contact your Modine distributor to schedule a free inspection and repair or replacement of the fan. The hazard
