BMW is recalling certain 2022 to 2025 i4, 2022 to 2024 i5 and i7, and 2024 ix electric vehicles because a software defect in the motor controller may unexpectedly shut down the high-voltage system, cutting drive power and risking a crash.

Stop driving the vehicle if you experience sudden loss of power. Contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-2727 or wait for the owner notification letter (expected August 5, 2025). A free software update will be available over-the-air or at a BMW dealer, at no cost to you.
