BMW K 1600 Motorcycle Recall: Fire Risk

2025 BMW K 1600 B: POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:SEALS/GASKETS

BMW is recalling certain 2017 to 2025 K 1600 GT, GTL, and B motorcycles, and 2018 to 2025 K 1600 Grand America motorcycles because the seal on the reverse gear control unit can deteriorate and let moisture in. An overheated control unit can catch fire.

What is recalled

Certain 2017 to 2025 BMW K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, and K 1600 B motorcycles, and 2018 to 2025 BMW K 1600 Grand America motorcycles, sold by BMW of North America, LLC. Specific vehicles are identified by VIN and will be searchable at NHTSA.gov beginning May 25, 2026.

Take your motorcycle to a BMW dealer for a free replacement of the reverse gear control unit. Watch for a notification letter from BMW (first letters were mailed May 28, 2026; a second letter will follow when parts are ready).
