Front seat belts in certain 2024 XM and 2025 BMW X5, X6, X7, and Alpina XB7 models may fail to detect unbelted passengers, preventing the warning light from alerting drivers and potentially preventing the airbag system from deploying properly during a crash.

2024 BMW XM; 2025 BMW X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 M60i, X5 M, X5 xDrive50e; 2025 BMW X6 xDrive40i, X6 M60i, X6 M; 2025 BMW X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i; and 2025 BMW Alpina XB7 vehicles.

What to do right now

Contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule a free dealer inspection and replacement of the front seat lower seat belts if necessary. Notification letters were mailed July 12, 2024.

The hazard

A seat belt warning light that does not alert occupants of an unbelted seat belt or an SRS system that deploys improperly can both increase the risk of injury in a crash.
