2025 Ford Explorer PCM Software Recall
2025 FORD EXPLORER: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE
Updated April 11, 2025
Ford is recalling certain 2025 Explorer vehicles because the powertrain control module (PCM) software can reset while you're driving, potentially causing the park system to fail or the engine to stall. A failed park system can let the vehicle roll away when parked, and a sudden engine stall can cause a crash.
Is the Ford Motor Company recalled? Yes. This product was recalled by NHTSA on April 11, 2025. Details below.
What is recalled
2025 Ford Explorer vehicles equipped with a powertrain control module (PCM) that may have faulty software. Ford's recall number is 25S35 (NHTSA ID: 25V239000).
Am I affected
You're affected if you own a 2025 Ford Explorer. Check your recall notice (mailed June 6, 2025) or look up your vehicle identification number (VIN) at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your specific vehicle is included.
What to do right now
Take your vehicle to a Ford dealer for a free PCM software update. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule an appointment or get more information. Until the update is done, always apply your parking brake when you park the vehicle.

The hazard
A damaged park system can result in a vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is placed in park without the parking brake applied. An engine stall while driving can result in a sudden loss of drive power. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
