Modine Manufacturing Company Recalls Airedale Heating and Cooling Ventilation Fans Due to Fire Hazard

Modine Manufacturing is recalling ventilation fans inside Airedale ClassMate and SchoolMate heat pumps used in classrooms and schools. If water reaches the fan's circuit board, the motor can short circuit, causing the unit to overheat and potentially catch fire.

What is recalled
Ventilation fans built into Airedale-branded ClassMate DX Cooling and Air Source Heat Pumps and SchoolMate Water/Ground Source Heat Pumps, sold for classroom and school use. Affected model codes are identified by the letter in digit 9 of the model number: - CMD: digit 9 is C, D, or E - CMP: digit 9 is C, D, or E - SMG: digit 9 is H, J, K, N, or P - SMW: digit 9 is H, J, K, N, or P - CMS: digit 9 is H, J, K, N, or P The Airedale brand name appears on a sticker on the front of the unit. The model name and serial number are on the serial plate on the underside of the control unit.
Am I affected
You are affected if your school or classroom has an Airedale heat pump with one of these model prefixes: CMD, CMP, SMG, SMW, or CMS, AND digit 9 of the model number is C, D, or E (for CMD/CMP) or H, J, K, N, or P (for SMG, SMW, or CMS). Check the serial plate on the underside of the control unit for the model number.
What to do right now
Stop using the recalled heat pumps immediately. Contact Modine Manufacturing Company to get written instructions for safely unplugging the ventilation fan or switching its internal disconnect to the "off" position. Then contact your Modine distributor to schedule a free inspection and repair or replacement of the ventilation fan. The hazard
