Petzl America Recalls Nomic and Ergonomic Ice Climbing Axes Due to Fall Hazard; Risk of Serious Injury or Death

Petzl is recalling its Nomic and Ergonomic ice climbing axes because the shaft can break at the handle during use, causing the climber to fall. This defect poses a risk of serious injury or death.

What is recalled
Petzl Nomic ice climbing axes (model U021AA00, serial numbers 17L 0000000 000 through 20F 9999999 999) and Petzl Ergonomic ice climbing axes (model U022AA00, serial numbers 18F 0000000 000 through 21L 9999999 999). Nomic axes are black; Ergonomic axes are orange. Both models have an aluminum shaft, steel pick, and reinforced plastic grip. The serial number is printed on a label on the upper portion of the shaft.
Am I affected
You're affected if you own a Petzl Nomic (model U021AA00) or Petzl Ergonomic (model U022AA00) ice axe and its serial number, found on the label on the upper part of the shaft, falls within these ranges: Nomic: 17L 0000000 000 to 20F 9999999 999; Ergonomic: 18F 0000000 000 to 21L 9999999 999.
