Prestige Supernova & Typhoon Lighter Recall
Prestige Import Group Recalls Supernova and Typhoon Lighters Due to Risk of Serious Injury or Death from Fire and Burn Hazards; Violates Mandatory Standard for Cigarette Lighters
Updated April 9, 2026
Prestige Import Group is recalling its Supernova and Typhoon butane torch lighters because they lack the required child-resistant mechanism. Without that safety feature, children can ignite them, creating a serious risk of fire, burns, or death.
Is the Supernova and Typhoon Lighters recalled? Yes. This product was recalled by CPSC on April 9, 2026. Details below.
What is recalled
Two Prestige-branded metal butane torch lighter models: • **Supernova**, available in gray and black; rugged industrial look with a textured grip, mesh-like metal side panel with three horizontal bands, and a cap at the top of the flame valve. • **Typhoon**, rectangular shape, available in silver, black, and black/silver; metal and matte finish with the ignition trigger on the side and a cap on top of the flame valve.
Am I affected
You're affected if you own a Prestige-branded Supernova or Typhoon butane torch lighter in any of the colors described above (Supernova: gray or black; Typhoon: silver, black, or black/silver). Check the lighter for the Prestige brand name and the model name "Supernova" or "Typhoon."

The hazard
The recalled lighters violate the mandatory standard for cigarette lighters because they do not have the required child-resistant mechanism, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. In addition, the lighters failed to meet the pre-market lighter submission requirement needed to demonstrate that the lighters feature child-resistant mechanisms and ensuring their safety and compliance with U.S. regulations.
