Rowenta Recalls Cordless Vacuum Cleaners Due to Risk of Serious Injury from Fire and Burn Hazards

Rowenta is recalling the lithium-ion batteries used in two X-Force Flex cordless vacuum models because the battery can overheat and catch fire, posing a serious risk of fire and burns. The batteries were sold both inside the vacuum and separately.

What is recalled

Rowenta X-Force Flex cordless vacuum cleaners and their lithium-ion batteries, sold in red, black, and silver. Two vacuum models are affected: X-Force Flex 14.60 Animal (model number RH99A2U1) and X-Force Flex 15.60 Animal (model number RH99F2U1). The recalled battery model number is ZR0097U2 with a date code starting with 23 or 24. Batteries were sold separately or packaged with the vacuums.

Am I affected

You're affected if you own a Rowenta X-Force Flex vacuum or a standalone battery with these identifiers: vacuum model number RH99A2U1 or RH99F2U1, and/or battery model number ZR0097U2 with a date code beginning with 23 or 24. Check both numbers on the battery housed in the vacuum's handle.

What to do right now

Stop using the vacuum immediately and remove the recalled battery from the handle. Register for the recall at rowentausa.com/recall-campaign-xforce, where you'll upload a photo of the battery's model number and date code. Once verified, Rowenta will send you a free replacement battery. Do not throw the old battery in the trash, curbside recycling, or used-battery drop boxes at retail stores. Contact your local municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center for proper disposal, and call ahead to confirm they accept recalled lithium-ion batteries.
